Alte Synagoge, Religious landmark in Wiesbaden, Germany
The Alte Synagoge displayed Moorish Revival architecture with a central dome, ribbed cupolas, and ornate towers at the Michelsberg district in Wiesbaden.
Built between 1863 and 1869 under architect Philipp Hoffmann's guidance, the synagogue was destroyed during the November 1938 pogrom with only foundations remaining.
The synagogue served as the main religious center for the Jewish community of Wiesbaden until its destruction in the late 1930s.
Since May 2024, visitors can explore a digital 3D reconstruction of the Alte Synagoge through the European cultural heritage platform Europeana.
The building's foundation outline remains visible through colored markings in the pavement of Coulinstrasse, marking its original location.
