Alte Veste

Alte Veste is a castle located on a hilltop near Zirndorf with stone structures and building elements from different periods. The complex includes several buildings, such as a large residential tower with ornate interior features and a fortified courtyard.

The castle originated in the medieval period and underwent multiple reconstructions and expansions over the centuries. During the Thirty Years' War in 1632, it became the site of intense fighting between Imperial and Swedish forces.

The hunting chamber here contains around 60 wooden panels with intricate hunting scenes, reflecting the artistic skill of the Renaissance and the interests of the nobility who lived there.

Visitors can reach the castle by following marked hiking paths from Zirndorf, which offer various starting points and clear signage. It is advisable to wear comfortable hiking boots and check the weather conditions before attempting the routes.

The large residential tower contains one of the largest secular halls from the medieval period in the region, where feasts and assemblies of the castle lords took place. This chamber reflects the power and wealth of the noble family that ruled here.
