St. Marienthal Abbey, Cistercian nunnery in Ostritz, Germany

The monastery stands on the left bank of the Neisse River, featuring multiple buildings including an abbey, church, provostry, bakery, sawmill and vineyard.

Queen Kunigunde of Bohemia founded St. Marienthal Abbey in 1234 near a trade route connecting Prague to Görlitz through the region of Saxon Upper Lusatia.

The monastery maintains the Cistercian tradition of prayer, reading, and labor while operating an international meeting center promoting understanding between Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic.

The abbey provides accommodations for visitors with 150 beds and maintains facilities for conferences, workshops, and educational programs throughout the year.

Ten nuns continue to live and work in Germany's oldest continuously operating Cistercian nunnery, which survived multiple wars, fires, and floods since its foundation.
