Melibokus, Mountain summit in Bergstraße region, Germany
Melibokus is a mountain summit in southern Hesse with an elevation of 517 meters, located in the Bergstraße region. The peak offers views of the Rhine valley and surrounding Odenwald landscapes, with multiple hiking paths connecting to nearby towns.
The original stone tower on the summit was destroyed during World War II and later replaced by a US Army radio mast. This military structure remains visible at the peak today.
The name Melibokus originates from ancient texts referencing Melobokon oros and connections to Germanic tribes of the area. This historical link to the past remains visible in how the peak is known and discussed by locals today.
The summit is accessible from Zwingenberg railway station via hiking trails, with the Nibelungensteig path leading directly to the peak. Sturdy footwear and water are recommended, especially for those planning longer walks.
A webcam system captures new images every five minutes from the summit, allowing people to monitor weather and views from anywhere. This real-time connection merges the physical visit with remote observation.
