Wunderino Arena, Multi-purpose arena in Vorstadt, Kiel, Germany
Wunderino Arena is a multi-purpose hall in Vorstadt, Kiel, Germany, providing space for up to 13,500 visitors and equipped with contemporary technical systems. The interior divides into a central event floor surrounded by seating tiers arranged across several levels.
The hall opened in 1951 using steel beams from an aircraft hangar previously dismantled on the island of Sylt. This material helped the city quickly rebuild a larger event venue after the war.
The hall takes its name from a betting company and stands as home ground for one of Europe's most successful handball clubs. On match days supporters fill the stands wearing blue, white and black colours while chanting songs that echo throughout the space.
The hall sits at Europaplatz 1 and can be reached via several parking areas and public transport stopping in central Kiel. Visitors should expect entry queues depending on the event type and plan to arrive early.
The construction used parts from a former military base and transformed aviation remains into a venue for sport and music. This reuse made the hall an early example of resource-saving building in the post-war period.
