Wunderino Arena is a multi-purpose hall in Vorstadt, Kiel, Germany, providing space for up to 13,500 visitors and equipped with contemporary technical systems. The interior divides into a central event floor surrounded by seating tiers arranged across several levels.
The hall opened in 1951 using steel beams from an aircraft hangar previously dismantled on the island of Sylt. This material helped the city quickly rebuild a larger event venue after the war.
The hall's name has changed with its sponsors: it was the Sparkassen-Arena from 2008, became the Wunderino Arena in 2020, and is due to be renamed Merkur Ostseehalle in April 2026. Locals still call it Ostseehalle. It is the home venue of THW Kiel handball club, and the Baltic Horse Show equestrian event has also been held here.
The hall sits at Europaplatz 1 and can be reached via several parking areas and public transport stopping in central Kiel. Visitors should expect entry queues depending on the event type and plan to arrive early.
The steel construction came from a retired aircraft hangar at an airbase on the island of Sylt, dismantled and brought to Kiel. This let the hall open on 17 June 1951, during Kiel Week, only about six months after building began in December 1950.
