Wiedensahl, Rural municipality in Lower Saxony, Germany
Wiedensahl is a rural municipality in Lower Saxony that stretches along a main street. Farmsteads and houses line both sides of this road, while meadows and forests surround the area, which lies between the Weser River and Lake Steinhuder.
The municipality was founded in 1253 and developed as a Hagenhufendorf with a distinctive two-sided structure. This settlement form, where farmsteads lined both sides of the street in a row, was typical for northern German agricultural landscapes.
The name Wiedensahl comes from the willows and valley of the area. The village layout with farmsteads on both sides of the main street still shows how farming families once lived close together and worked their land.
The village has three museums, including Wilhelm Busch's birthplace, which visitors can tour. It is easily accessible and located in a quiet area well suited for walking and exploring on foot.
The artist Wilhelm Busch, born here in 1832, created his well-known humorous stories and caricatures while spending time in the village. His work had broad influence on German literature and illustration.
