The Schöneiche bei Berlin tramway is the only narrow-gauge tram line in the Berlin area, running between Friedrichshagen and Rüdersdorf. The route passes through small neighborhoods and green spaces and connects to the Berlin S-Bahn at Friedrichshagen.
The line opened in 1910 and was first pulled by a steam locomotive before switching to electric power in 1914. The route suffered damage during the Second World War but was repaired and extended in the 1950s to serve the growing communities.
Line 88 runs only with low-floor vehicles, making it easy to board for everyone including those with strollers or mobility aids. The stops are straightforward to find and the tram is a good option for a day trip out of Berlin.
Although it runs in the Berlin commuter area, the tramway uses a narrow gauge that sets it apart from every other line in the region. On certain weekends, historic streetcars run along the same tracks as part of local events, giving riders a chance to see vintage vehicles in operation.
