GKK Etzenricht, Power conversion station in Etzenricht, Germany.
GKK Etzenricht was a power conversion station designed to transform electrical current between different grid systems. The facility served as a connection point that allowed electricity to flow between German and Czech networks.
Construction began in spring 1991 and the facility began operating in mid-1992. The station ran for roughly 2 years before being taken offline in late 1995.
The facility represented German engineering excellence in power transmission technology, connecting electrical networks between Germany and the Czech Republic.
The site sits in a rural area near the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. Since the facility has been shut down for decades, it is not open to visitors today.
After being shut down, the technical equipment sat unused on the site for many years. An Austrian recycling company eventually purchased the components in 2006 to dismantle and process them.
