Die Gleichen, Hill group in Göttingen district, Germany
Die Gleichen is a pair of hills in the Göttingen district near Gelliehausen, with both summits reaching approximately 432 meters in elevation. The peaks stand roughly 400 meters apart and define the local landscape with their balanced forms.
Two castles were built around 1100 on these hills by the Counts of Reinhausen, who controlled the surrounding lands. The noble family later abandoned their fortress holdings to establish an Augustinian monastery elsewhere.
The twin peaks have long served as landmarks in the local landscape and shape how people navigate the region. Hikers and locals refer to them as natural navigation points in their daily surroundings.
The hills can be reached via hiking trails that connect from nearby Appenrode and the hamlet of Gelliehausen in the area. Proper footwear is recommended since the paths have some steep sections during the climb to either summit.
The two hills sit between two streams that frame the landscape on either side: the Garte flows to the north while the Wendebach runs to the south. Both waterways eventually join the River Leine, the main river system of the region.
