Glienicke Bridge, Steel bridge between Berlin and Potsdam, Germany
The Glienicke Bridge stretches across the Havel River with a length of 128 meters and connects the Wannsee district of Berlin with Potsdam.
Built in 1907 by architect Eduard Fürstenau, the bridge required substantial reconstruction after extensive damage during World War II and reopened in 1949.
The bridge earned international recognition as a site for spy exchanges between Eastern and Western powers during the Cold War period from 1962 to 1986.
The road bridge accommodates vehicle traffic on Bundesstraße 1 highway and includes accessibility features for wheelchair users across its 22-meter width.
The central white line on the bridge marked the exact boundary between East and West during the German separation, making it a strategic exchange point.
