Sky Wheel, Steel roller coaster at Skyline Park in Rammingen, Germany
Sky Wheel is a steel roller coaster at Skyline Park in Rammingen, reaching a height of 46 meters (about 151 feet). The track runs two full loops and the cars feature freely rotating seats, placing riders in an open, sideways position throughout the ride.
Sky Wheel was built by Maurer Rides GmbH and opened at Skyline Park in October 2004. It was part of a wave of investment that expanded the park's range of high-ride attractions in the early 2000s.
The name Sky Wheel refers to the way the cars spin freely on their axis as they move through the two loops. Watching the ride from the ground, you can see each row of seats rotating independently as the train passes overhead.
The ride takes 12 passengers per trip and uses lap restraints without shoulder bars, so riders need a reasonable level of mobility to board comfortably. Loose items should be secured before boarding, as the open seating position leaves them more exposed during the loops.
The seats on Sky Wheel rotate without any motor: the spinning is driven entirely by gravity and the forces generated as the train moves through the loops. This means that each ride can feel slightly different depending on how the weight of the passengers is distributed.
