EuroSpeedway Lausitz, Motorsport racing track in Klettwitz, Germany
The EuroSpeedway Lausitz is a motorsport complex in Klettwitz featuring a 4.5-kilometer road circuit and a separate high-speed oval track. The two layouts share portions of the same asphalt surface and offer different racing configurations for various series.
Construction of the facility began in the late 1990s on a former open-pit coal mine and opened in 2000. The original planning dated back to the 1980s when the area was still part of East Germany.
Spectator stands fill each year with enthusiastic fans who follow the passing cars along the main straight and at the corner exits. The racing atmosphere mixes with the sound of revving engines and the smell of race fuel drifting across the grandstands.
The track sits along the A13 motorway between Berlin and Dresden and provides large parking areas for visitors. On race days, arriving early helps avoid longer waiting times.
The oval is the only one of its kind on continental Europe and features a triangular shape similar to Pocono Raceway in the United States. For several years the facility hosted American CART racing series that normally competed only in North America.
