Ethnological Museum Berlin

The Ethnological Museum Berlin holds more than 500,000 objects representing cultures from Africa, Asia, Americas, and Oceania within the Humboldt Forum complex.

Established in 1886 as the Royal Museum for Ethnology, the institution traces its origins to the 17th-century Kunstkammer of Brandenburg-Prussia rulers.

The museum maintains extensive collections of Maya vases, Benin bronzes, Cameroon sculptures, and Congo power figures, representing global cultural diversity.

Visitors access the museum through the Humboldt Forum in central Berlin, where the collections occupy multiple floors alongside the Museum of Asian Art.

The Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv within the museum preserves one of the earliest ethnomusicology collections of sound recordings in the world.
