Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Palace hotel in Münchner Altstadt, Germany.
Hotel Bayerischer Hof is a palace hotel in the Altstadt-Lehel neighborhood with multiple wings, large halls, and a spa spanning several floors. The facade shows classical proportions with pilasters and cornices, while the interior mixes styles from neobaroque lounges to modern conference rooms.
Joseph Lutz founded the establishment in 1841 as a lodging house for wealthy travelers, with Friedrich von Gärtner designing the original structure. Expansions and renovations followed in the late 19th and 20th centuries by Emanuel Herigoyen, Jean-Baptiste Métivier, and later Erwin Schleich.
The name recalls Bavarian traditions of hospitality and reflects the city's long connection to grand lodgings. Guests today walk past paintings and sculptures displayed in hallways and lounges or attend concerts held in the building's main hall.
The building stands a few minutes on foot from Marienplatz and the Residenz, close to many restaurants and shops. Access is through the main entrance on Promenadeplatz, with parking available in the attached garage.
A rooftop wellness area with pool and treatment rooms offers views across the city's rooftops. These spaces sit several floors above street level and provide an unusual perspective on church spires and facades.
