Gedenkstein Karlstein, monument in Weinstadt, Germany

Gedenkstein Karlstein is a stone monument located between Endersbach and Strümpfelbach districts at roughly 430 meters elevation. The site features views across the Remstal valley and includes grilling areas, seating, tables, and a children's play area.

The Karlstein commemorates Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg's 1793 settlement of a woodland ownership dispute between Strümpfelbach and Endersbach. A large memorial stone was set up in the forest in thanks. The 1793 stone was long displayed in the Endersbach local museum, later moved to the Silchergrundschule for lack of space, and returned to its original spot in 2012 by the Friends of Karlstein association. Sculptor Karl Ulrich Nuss, who lived in Strümpfelbach, made and placed a new stone in 1973.

The inscription on the stone recalls the duke's role in settling woodland disputes peacefully between neighboring communities. Visitors can read this local history directly at the site, which marks where two districts found resolution.

The viewpoint sits at about 430 m above sea level right at the forest edge, between Endersbach and Strümpfelbach. The barbecue area there was built in 1992 and renovated in 2006 and 2018; swings, a seesaw and two tables were replaced in summer 2015. For the Remstalgartenschau 2019, two more barbecue spots were added in August 2018 and all tables and benches renewed.

A local group called Friends of Karlstein maintains the stone and organizes a gathering on New Year's morning each year. This tradition has endured for decades and shows how the monument remains connected to the community.
