The station, initially named Salmunster, opened on July 1, 1868, as part of the Wächtersbach-Steinau section of the Kinzig Valley Railway.

The entrance building holds protected status under the Hessian Heritage Act, representing regional architectural preservation efforts.

Platform 1 and track 2 accommodate hourly Regional-Express services between Frankfurt and Fulda, while track 3 serves the Frankfurt-Hanau-Wächtersbach route.

The station underwent multiple name changes, from Salmunster to Salmünster-Soden in 1880, then to Salmünster-Bad Soden until reaching its current designation.
