Abbey of St. Nikola in Passau

The Abbey of St. Nikola sits where three rivers meet and comprises a large religious complex with medieval and Baroque architectural features. The site shows different construction periods and currently functions as the mother house for a community of religious sisters.

Bishop Altmann of Passau founded the monastery in 1067, and Pope Alexander II granted it official confirmation in 1072. These two moments established it as an important church institution.
