Nietzsche-Haus is a museum in Naumburg, Germany, dedicated to the life and work of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The building houses exhibition rooms, a research library, and various items from the thinker's estate.
In summer 1858 Franziska Nietzsche rented the upper-floor flat at what is now Weingarten 18 for herself and her children Friedrich and Elisabeth. She bought the house in 1878 and lived there until her death in 1897; her daughter Elisabeth then sold it. The house has been open to the public as a museum since 1994.
The house is named after Friedrich Nietzsche, who lived here with his mother Franziska and sister Elisabeth from 1858; Franziska bought it in 1878 and stayed until her death in 1897. Since 1994 it has been a museum, and each October the neighbouring Documentation Centre hosts a four-day Nietzsche Congress where philosophers from around the world discuss his work.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is €5 for adults and €3 for students and seniors. The closest airport is Leipzig/Halle Airport, about 45 km away, and the museum is accessible by car, bus or train.
The documentation center here holds extensive research materials for scholars studying the philosopher's works. This collection makes the place a key resource for deeper studies into his philosophical thinking.
