Hochmosel Bridge, Road bridge in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Hochmosel Bridge is a road crossing in Rhineland-Palatinate that spans the valley with eleven sections stretching 1702 meters. The steel and concrete construction rises 158 meters above the river and connects the banks through several tall pillars.
Planning for this connection began during the Cold War to create a direct route through the region. Construction started in 2011 and completion came in November 2019.
The structure crosses a wine-growing area where vintners work the steep slopes of the valley below. Drivers experience the contrast between the modern construction and the old vineyard terraces beneath them.
The roadway runs on two lanes in each direction and allows fast passage without traffic lights or curves. Pedestrians and cyclists cannot use the crossing, as it is designed exclusively for motor vehicles.
The foundations reach about 50 meters deep into the ground to ensure stability in the geological formation of the valley. This depth was necessary to reach solid base layers beneath the surface.
