Mechernich Mining Museum

The Mechernich Mining Museum displays underground tunnels, mining equipment, and a scale model showing how the Bleiberg operation functioned before 1957. The exhibits are arranged to give a clear picture of the mine layout and the tools miners used daily.

The Bleiberg mine was the heart of regional mining and closed in 1957, ending a long era of extraction in the area. The museum was established in 1995 to preserve and present this important local heritage.

The museum opens on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, though schedules can vary seasonally. Plan to dress warmly if you enter the working visitor mine, where underground conditions are considerably cooler.

The attached Grube Günnersdorf visitor mine is actively operated today, functioning as a working mine rather than just a historic site. This operation gives visitors a genuine feel for how extraction actually happens underground.
