Poppostein, Neolithic dolmen in Sieverstedt, Germany

Poppostein is a Neolithic megalithic tomb built with two supporting stones on the sides, one end stone, and topped by a large granite slab. The structure stands as stacked massive stones arranged in this distinctive configuration.

The megalithic structure was built between 3500 and 2800 BC as a burial site for prehistoric populations. Archaeological evidence suggests the monument served local communities across many generations.

The cup-shaped marks on the capstone connect to ritual practices of ancient times, and visitors can still see these traces today. The location served as a gathering place where the local community came together for ceremonial purposes.

The site is located east of road B76 between Flensburg and Schleswig and remains open to the public year-round without restrictions. The location is exposed to the elements, so visitors should dress appropriately for changing weather conditions.

The name comes from Low German and means child stone, pointing to ancient beliefs about the monument's role in the community. This designation reflects prehistoric traditions rather than later Christian retellings.
