Poppostein, Neolithic dolmen in Sieverstedt, Germany

The Poppostein consists of two supporting stones on its narrow sides and one end stone, covered by a large granite capstone measuring 2.4 meters in length.

Dating from 3500 to 2800 BC, this megalithic burial site served as a gathering place for the Idstedt community during pre-Christian ceremonial assemblies.

The granite capstone features seventeen shallow cup-shaped depressions that researchers connect to ancient ritual practices and potential healing properties of the stone dust.

Located east of route B76 between Flensburg and Schleswig, this state-owned archaeological monument remains open for public visits throughout the year.

The name derives from Low German 'Poppensteen,' meaning child stone, reflecting prehistoric cultural interpretations rather than the later Christian missionary tales.
