Brettmühlenteich Dobra, lake in Thiendorf, Saxony, Germany
The Brettmühlenteich Dobra is a large reservoir in Thiendorf, Saxony, formed by a dam that stands 13 feet (4 meters) high and stretches about 1,300 feet (400 meters) long. Fed by two small streams and surrounded by forest, it covers roughly 36 acres (14.5 hectares) with a leisure center, camping site, sandy beach, boat rentals, and dining facilities on its edge.
The reservoir was created by dam construction and historically served the local community for work and leisure. Private management took over the leisure facilities in 2016, marking a shift in how the site developed as a recreational destination.
The name Dobra comes from the local history of the region. Visitors see people relaxing by the water, taking walks, or cycling, which makes this spot a gathering place for the community.
Visitors can enjoy a sandy beach, camping site, boat rentals, and dining options on site. Walking and cycling paths circle the water and are accessible for all ages, making it easy to spend several hours or stay overnight at the facilities.
The water is fed by two small streams that keep quality high and algae blooms rare in summer, making it one of the safest spots for swimming in the region. This clean water draws many visitors from nearby Dresden who return repeatedly for activities from fishing to triathlon events held here.
