Bostalsee, Recreational reservoir in Nohfelden, Germany.
Bostalsee is an artificial lake in Nohfelden within the Saar-Hunsruck Nature Park, covering roughly 120 hectares. Two sandy beaches line the shore, while the water reaches depths of up to 20 meters (65 feet) and stretches between forested hills.
Construction of the reservoir began in 1973 and finished in 1975 as part of a plan to promote tourism in Sankt Wendel county. Water from the Bostalbach filled the new basin after completion, creating a leisure area in a previously rural region.
The name comes from the Bostalbach, a small stream that was dammed to form the reservoir. On warm days, families gather at the sandy beaches while sailboats glide across the water and anglers wait patiently for a catch.
The site opens from April to October and suits visitors who want to swim, sail, or walk along the shore. Paths around the water help with orientation, while some beach sections offer gentle access into the water.
A solar-powered boat offers tours across the water lasting around 50 minutes, providing a quiet view of the shoreline. The southwestern section remains closed to protect plants and birds, forming a quiet zone away from the beaches.
