Buckelwiesen bei Mittenwald

The Buckelwiesen near Mittenwald is a protected geotope characterized by numerous small mounds and shallow depressions spread across the meadow. The rolling surface creates a distinctive wavy pattern across the landscape that changes the way light and shadow play across the ground.

Glacial movements and permafrost activity during the Ice Age shaped this distinctive landscape over thousands of years. The formation developed through natural processes that repeatedly reshaped the terrain.

The subsoil is calcium-rich and composed of moraine material and gravel deposits that support a diverse range of plant species. This particular soil composition makes the area a habitat for less common plants found in the region.
