Hoher Peißenberg

Hoher Peißenberg is a mountain in the Pfaffenwinkel region of Bavaria standing at 988 meters with a small church sitting at its summit. The mountain is covered by forest and meadows, with several pathways leading upward that reveal views across the surrounding landscape.

A chapel was founded on the mountain in 1514 and later expanded into a larger pilgrimage church. At the same time, a weather station began taking measurements in 1781 and continues operating today.

Several marked trails lead to the summit, allowing visitors to choose a route suited to their fitness level. The mountain is accessible year-round on foot, though winter may bring snow that affects hiking conditions.

On clear days, visitors can identify more than 400 different locations and landmarks from the summit, including well-known lakes and distant mountain ranges. This makes the place popular with photographers and nature observers eager to explore the panorama.
