Sender Hohenpeißenberg, Communication tower in Hohenpeißenberg, Germany
Sender Hohenpeißenberg is a concrete broadcasting tower located in the Pröbstelsberg hamlet area below the mountain's summit. The structure houses antennas for television, radio, and other transmission services that cover the surrounding region.
The tower began broadcasting in 1978 and was among the first transmission stations built in the Federal Republic of Germany. Its construction was part of the nation's modernization of broadcasting infrastructure during the post-war years.
Located near a pilgrimage church and meteorological observatory, the tower forms part of the three main landmarks on Hoher Peißenberg mountain.
You can spot and photograph the tower from several hiking trails on the mountainside. The tower itself is not open to the public, but views from the mountain over the surrounding area are excellent from many vantage points.
The site was chosen based on complex frequency planning after World War II that shifted Germany toward ultra-short wave broadcasting. This technical solution allowed multiple transmitters to operate in close proximity without interfering with each other.
