Budge-Palais, Historic villa in Rotherbaum, Germany.
The Budge-Palais is a neoclassical villa on Harvestehuder Weg defined by generous entrance halls and an impressive staircase. The floor plan spans multiple levels with rooms oriented toward the Alster meadows.
The building was created in 1884 by architect Martin Haller for ship broker Ivan Gans. Henry Budge purchased the villa in 1900 and had it transformed into a palace-like residence.
The building has served as home to Hamburg University of Music and Theatre since 1959, shaping the city's cultural life through education and performances. Students use the spaces daily for instruction and public shows in theater and music.
The villa is accessible via the U1 subway line, with Hallerstraße station being the nearest stop and just a short walk away. The building sits close to the Alster meadows and can also be reached on foot from that direction.
The opulent mirror hall from the original house was relocated to Hamburg's Museum of Arts and Crafts, where it continues to host concerts. This transfer shows how major rooms from the palazzo were moved to other institutions for preservation.
