Burg Berge, Medieval castle ruins in Odenthal, Germany.

The stone remains of Burg Berge stand on a steep hill overlooking the Dhunn River, featuring old walls and archaeological excavation areas.

Constructed around 1060, Burg Berge served as the first fortified residence of the Counts of Berg until they relocated to Neuenberge Castle in 1133.

Archaeological excavations in 1981 uncovered artifacts including dice made from animal bones and coins, providing insights into medieval life at the castle.

The castle site connects to multiple hiking trails in the Bergisches Land Nature Park, offering various route options for different fitness levels.

The fortress location now functions as a protected habitat for lizards, combining historical preservation with natural conservation efforts.
