Burg Breisach, Medieval castle ruins in Breisach, Germany
The castle remains include a deep moat spanning 24 meters wide and stone walls rising from the elongated Breisacher Münsterberg plateau at 48 degrees north latitude.
Built in 1155 and designated as Reichsburg in 1315, the castle underwent multiple expansions before suffering substantial damage during the Thirty Years' War in 1633.
The Tulla-Turm, constructed in 1874 near the castle site, stands as a memorial to Johann Gottfried Tulla and represents regional architectural heritage.
Visitors can examine a detailed model of the original castle structure at the city museum located in the Rheintor district of Breisach.
The rectangular donjon originally reached 28 meters in height with ground dimensions of 24 by 17 meters, demonstrating medieval German fortification techniques.
