Burg Rockenberg

Burg Rockenberg is a castle ruin with a rectangular four-story residential tower capped by a gabled roof, flanked by three preserved round corner towers at the edges of the outer walls. The complex displays typical medieval fortified architecture with stone walls and shows the layout of a noble stronghold.

Construction of the castle began in 1317 under the knights von Crüftel, who built the initial fortification. The property later passed to the knights von Bellersheim and shaped the region for several centuries.

The castle serves today as a venue for local events and is maintained by the community, showing how historical buildings play a role in village life. Visitors can see how the stone walls and towers continue to shape the town's character and maintain the connection between past and present.

The former administrative building now houses a restaurant where visitors can eat and drink while exploring the grounds. It is worth checking access points and paths around the ruins beforehand, as not all areas may be open at all times.

On the east side of the castle stands an early Gothic double window that preserves rare details of the medieval construction period. This architectural element shows the artistic ambitions of the original builders and is a well-kept example of Gothic window design from that era.
