Burg Gemen

Burg Gemen is a castle located in Borken that combines architectural elements added across several centuries of construction and modification. The fortified complex includes defensive towers, sturdy surrounding walls, and a central keep built in the 1280s.

This castle first appeared in written records in 1274 and subsequently underwent five major rebuilding and renovation cycles throughout the following centuries. A turning point came in 1822 when Baron Johann Ignatz Franz von Landsberg-Velen purchased the property and initiated significant changes.

The Diocese of Münster operates this castle as a center for youth education and community gatherings that bring people together throughout the year. Walking through the grounds, you notice how the place serves as a living meeting point rather than merely a historical relic.
