Gnandstein Castle, Medieval fortress in Frohburg, Germany
The castle stands above the Wyhra River, featuring a fortified keep, battlements, stone walls, and a residential palace building with Gothic architecture.
Founded in 1200 by the von Schladebach family, the castle became property of the von Einsiedel lineage from the early 15th century until 1945.
The castle museum displays a collection of 338 artifacts, including Meissen porcelain pieces and Dutch paintings from the 17th century Groß collection.
The castle opens Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and Saturday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, with admission prices from 1 to 5 euros.
Between 1994 and 2004, the castle underwent major restoration work to reinforce its structure while maintaining its Romanesque architectural elements.
