Schule Bullenhuser Damm, Cultural heritage memorial in Rothenburgsort, Germany.
Schule Bullenhuser Damm is a red brick building with Renaissance architectural features located in Hamburg's Rothenburgsort district and now functions as a memorial site. Inside, exhibition spaces contain documents, photographs, and personal items that document what happened here during World War II.
The building began as a school and was converted into a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp during World War II. Nazi doctors conducted medical experiments on prisoners held there before the camp was liquidated in 1945.
The site preserves the stories of twenty Jewish children and their caretakers through personal objects and biographical accounts displayed throughout the building. Visitors come to read the names of the victims and connect with the individuals whose lives were cut short.
The Foundation of Hamburg Memorials manages the site and offers guided tours and educational programs for groups and individuals. Visitors should allow time to explore the exhibitions carefully and read the detailed accounts on display.
Behind the memorial stands a garden where visitors and family members have planted roses in remembrance. Each rose is marked with a small plaque bearing the name of a victim, creating a living tribute.
