Burg Straßberg, Medieval stone castle in Straßberg, Germany
The stone fortress stands on a strategic hilltop location with a square tower, residential buildings, and sections of preserved fortification walls.
The castle construction began around 1200 with a ring wall, followed by additions in the 13th century, including a four-story defensive tower.
The Lords of Strassberg served as ministerialis knights for the Vaz family and maintained control over local trade routes and customs.
The ruins underwent restoration work between 2008 and 2010 to stabilize and preserve the remaining stone structures for visitors.
The castle walls contain fragments of ancient windows and privies that indicate the presence of former residential quarters within the fortress.
