Burg Streichenberg

Burg Streichenberg sits on a low mountain spur behind Schloss Schomberg and features thick defensive walls alongside Renaissance portals from the 16th century. The remaining structures form a connected ensemble that reflects different building phases.

The castle originated in the Middle Ages and was reworked with Renaissance elements in the 16th century, marking the shift from medieval to early modern building styles. This transformation reflects the cultural changes that took place in the region during that time.

The preserved keep and forecourt show how people in the Middle Ages built and defended fortifications. You can still see today in the walls and gates the methods that medieval craftsmen used.

The remains are accessible via marked pathways and sit near Schloss Schomberg. Wear comfortable shoes, as the path climbs the mountain spur and the ground can be uneven.

The keep was partially rebuilt in later periods, creating an unusual mix of original stones and later repairs. These layers tell the story of centuries of use and adaptation to new needs.
