Burg Greifenstein, Medieval castle in Bad Blankenburg, Germany
The stone fortress stands on a 390-meter hill, covering 25,000 square meters, making it one of Germany's largest castle ruins.
The structure dates back to the 12th century, with its first written mention in 1137, when it served as the residence of the Counts of Schwarzburg.
The castle hosts regular falconry demonstrations, maintains a restaurant in the palace, and provides spaces for ceremonies in the König-Günther-Saal.
The castle grounds feature limited wheelchair accessibility, a restaurant that seats 30 guests, and two halls for gatherings of different sizes.
The castle underwent multiple fires in 1547 and experienced treasure hunters' visits in the 18th century, leading to the collapse of its main tower.
