Burg Hauenstein, Medieval castle ruins in Krombach, Germany
The castle ruins feature remnants of stone walls and a cellar with barrel vaults on a plateau measuring 25 meters in diameter.
Knight Werner Kolling constructed the fortress in the 14th century, which King Ruprecht destroyed in February 1405 leading to its abandonment by 1415.
Archaeological investigations in 2017 revealed medieval artifacts and ceramics that document the architectural methods and social patterns of Bavarian nobility.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins through the old trade route 'Alten Heuweg' and examine the preserved wall sections and underground vaulted cellar.
The structure includes a zwinger fortification and a large stone building near the castle moat, confirmed through archaeological excavations in recent years.
