Burg Kürnberg

Burg Kürnberg is a castle ruin on elevated ground near Stamsried with stone walls and towers still visible today. The remains display medieval construction with thick walls, ramparts, and masonry that has lasted for centuries.

The castle was founded in 1354 by Bavarian Duke Dietrich II as a defensive stronghold for the region. It changed owners several times before being abandoned in the early 1600s and gradually falling into disrepair.

The ruins show features of medieval military construction that visitors experience firsthand while exploring. Thick walls and arrow slits are visible throughout, revealing how people defended themselves during this period.

Access to the castle grounds is free and available year-round, with metal staircases leading to the ramparts. From up there you get views over the valley and surrounding landscape, and the paths are easy to explore on foot.

Interactive stations are scattered along the forest paths around the castle ruins that you discover while walking. These elements invite you to explore the history and nature of the place in a playful way.
