Burg Lichteneck

Burg Lichteneck is a castle ruin in Ingelfingen featuring preserved sections of ring walls with openings, remnants of shield walls, and a round tower foundation. The site spreads across the hilltop with clear traces of the original layout visible from both inside and outside the standing walls.

The castle was founded around 1250 by Kraft von Krautheim-Boxberg and later came under Hohenlohe family control near 1400. This transfer marked a change in regional power dynamics during the medieval period.

The castle layout reflects medieval defensive design with its bergfried tower, residential building, and protective walls arranged for security. You can still see how these elements worked together as you walk through the remains.

The site has wooden benches placed for rest and allows visitors to view the walls from multiple angles inside and outside. Access is straightforward, making it easy to walk around and inspect the remaining structures at your own pace.

Excavations revealed that the original bergfried tower reached at least 20 meters in height and was directly connected to the shield wall. This arrangement shows how the tower and wall worked together as a unified defense system.
