Burg Lichtenfels

Burg Lichtenfels is a castle in Rottweil with ruins located at about 500 meters (1,650 feet) elevation between two villages. The main remnants include a fully preserved shield wall and sections of the southern wall that date back centuries.

The castle was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Hohenberg as a regional seat of power. It was first damaged during the Battle of Leinstetten in 1298.

The castle served as a stronghold for the Lichtenfels family and remains a landmark in the surrounding landscape. Walking through the ruins, you can see how this location shaped the region's power structure.

The ruins are open to public access and can be freely explored. The hillside location requires some care when navigating the remains.

The castle was the site of local power struggles and changed hands multiple times over centuries. This turbulent history is reflected in the scattered stones and wall fragments visible today.
