The Schurkenturm is a medieval stone structure standing on a hill overlooking the town of Horb am Neckar. The ruins are part of the former Hohenberg Castle and offer wide views across the river valley from above.
The castle was built around 1300 as a fortified stronghold for local rulers. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the tower was briefly used as a prison before it eventually fell into decline.
The tower serves today as a gathering spot for hikers and nature enthusiasts exploring the region. People visit to enjoy views across the valley and connect with the landscape around them.
The tower can be reached via walking paths that lead uphill and connect to other ruins of the former castle. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as some paths are steep and uneven.
Underground wall fragments from the original fortification still remain, showing how medieval castles were built. These buried remnants reveal ancient construction techniques that are rarely visible today.
