Burgstall Hohenegg, Medieval castle ruins in Grünenbach, Germany.
The archaeological remains of Burgstall Hohenegg span an area of 15 by 50 meters on elevated ground in the Allgäu region of Bavaria.
First documented in 1171, the castle served as the residence of the nobles of Hohenegg until 1359, when they sold it to the Counts of Montfort.
The castle complex represents medieval Bavarian architectural traditions and exemplifies the defensive structures built during the regional development of Allgäu.
The castle site is accessible year-round through marked hiking paths, offering visitors a view of the remaining foundation structures.
Rudolf von Hohenegg, who lived in this castle, held the position of court chancellor under King Rudolf I of Habsburg in the 13th century.
