Burg Möckmühl, Medieval castle in Möckmühl, Germany.
Burg Möckmühl is a medieval fortified castle in Heilbronn with five wall towers and a distinctive corner tower at the northwest. The complex also includes a two-story neo-Gothic stone residence with a hipped roof that reflects different building periods of the site.
The castle was first documented in 1251 when the Lords of Dürn built it as a fortified stronghold. It later served as a position for Götz von Berlichingen during the conflict of 1519.
The Götzenturm tower shows medieval building skills with its eight-sided timber-framed upper section and distinctive Romanesque arched entrance. This tower still shapes how visitors see the castle today and reflects how medieval people constructed their strongholds.
Access to the castle is limited since it remains a private residence and requires advance arrangements to visit. Guided tours can be arranged for groups at specific times, so contacting the owners beforehand is important.
In 1902, General Gustav von Alvensleben and his wife restored the castle by reusing original foundation elements while adding neo-Gothic features. This reconstruction preserved medieval characteristics while adapting the building for their time.
