Burgstall Gegenpoint

Burgstall Gegenpoint are the remains of a spur castle situated roughly 2 kilometers east of Fürstenfeld Abbey. The site preserves portions of what were once defensive structures and residential spaces built from stone.

The castle was first recorded in documents during the 9th century under an earlier name. It served various powers during the medieval period before eventually being abandoned and falling into disrepair.

The site reflects how medieval nobility once controlled this landscape and the people who lived nearby. It reminds visitors of an era when such fortifications shaped daily life in the region.

The archaeological site is difficult to access and lies off main paths in a wooded area. Wearing sturdy footwear is advisable, and visitors should explore respectfully since it is a protected cultural monument.

Excavations have revealed that underground passages and hollow spaces existed beneath the castle site. These mysterious tunnel systems suggest an earlier or parallel use of the location that remains incompletely understood by researchers.
