Burgruine Hardeck

Burgruine Hardeck is a castle ruin in Lorbach, Germany, with remains that rise from the hilltop and show traces of various structures. Visitors can still see foundations of buildings, a circular tower base, and raised areas where the great hall once stood.

The castle was founded around the year 900 and served as an administrative center for the region for centuries. In 1464, the last administrator, Eckart Riedesel, left the site and moved to Büdingen, marking the end of its active use.

The remains include foundations of multiple buildings, a circular tower base, and elevated areas suggesting the location of the former great hall.

The site is located on a hilltop and offers good views of the surrounding area from above. The northern section shows a deeper ditch with visible stone wall remnants that visitors should watch for when exploring.

Water was a major challenge for those living here, as the nearest spring lay about two kilometers away. Supplying the settlement with fresh water required difficult transport over long distances, making daily life on the hilltop demanding.
