St. Remigius, Cultural heritage church in Büdingen, Germany.

St. Remigius is a cemetery church of rough red stone blocks with a steep grey slate roof holding three small dormer windows with arched openings. Five narrow arched windows run across the upper facade, and a rounded stone surround frames the central ground-level entrance. Two tall columnar trees and a low hedge stand in front of the building.

A Frankish landowner built a wooden private church at Großendorf in the early 8th century, dedicated to Saint Remigius; a single burial found in its remains supports this. In the 9th century a stone hall replaced it, and around 1050 the west transept and nave were raised to their present height. First documented in May 1265, it served as Büdingen's parish church until 1495, when the sacraments moved to the Marienkirche; since then it has been a cemetery church.

The dedication to Remigius, the Merovingian-Frankish national saint, points to the church's origin as a private church (Eigenkirche) founded in the early 8th century. Since 1495 St. Remigius has served only as a cemetery church, after the town parish moved to the Marienkirche. Ten round windows, late Gothic wall paintings and Fugenschnitte (joint cuts) are visible inside.

St. Remigius stands in the Großendorf district, not in Büdingen's old town, and has served only as a cemetery church since 1495, so there are no regular services to attend. Visitors come to see the churchyard and the Romanesque core; the ten round windows, late-Gothic wall paintings and joint cuts are inside. The two columnar trees and hedge partly screen the red-stone facade from the street.

The church is considered the mother church of the parishes of Herrnhaag, Hain-Gründau, Mittel-Gründau, Büches, Wolf, Rinderbügen, Wolferborn, Kefenrod and Hitzkirchen, while Vonhausen, Calbach, Orleshausen and Dudenrod had their own churches. Inside, ten round windows, late Gothic wall paintings and incised joint lines in the masonry are worth looking for.
