Burg Thannstein, Medieval castle ruins in Thanstein, Germany.
The castle stands on a 565-meter granite ridge, featuring a round tower with an 8-meter diameter and walls 2.5 meters thick.
First mentioned in 1281 with Uto von Tannstein, the castle changed ownership to the Zenger family in 1353 and was later destroyed by Swedish troops in 1633.
The OVIGO Theater company presents guided experience tours titled 'Von Raubrittern und Revolverhelden' through Thanstein and the castle remains since 2021.
The castle remains are located at Schlossberg 7 and 10, with the round tower and several wall sections open for public viewing without entry fees.
The castle's underground includes a small vaulted cellar partially carved into the rock, which remains preserved to this day.
