Burg Vlotho, Medieval castle ruins on Amtshausberg, Vlotho, Germany
The castle structure extends 110 meters in length and 60 meters in width, with preserved surrounding walls situated on a hilltop position.
Built around 1250, Burg Vlotho maintained control over the main trade route connecting Frankfurt to Bremen until its destruction in 1368.
The castle ruins underwent extensive archaeological research and reconstruction between 1936 and 1939, preserving medieval architectural elements for future generations.
Visitors can access the castle restaurant with garden seating, offering views across the Weser valley from an elevation of 138 meters.
The dungeon remained the sole standing structure from 1709 until 1936, when reconstruction efforts began to restore the castle's original features.
