Cella Sankt Benedikt, Monastery in Vahrenwald-List, Germany

Cella Sankt Benedikt is a Benedictine monastery in northern Hannover with a chapel and living quarters for the community located on Voßstraße. The building combines traditional design with spaces for connection to the surrounding city.

The monastery follows the Rule of Saint Benedict, which places prayer and work as central elements of monastic life. This tradition continues to shape the daily rhythm of the community today.

Four monks belonged to the community in 2024, sent from Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede. Since 1997 the Cella has run a state-approved speech and breathing therapy practice, and the brothers also offer spiritual accompaniment. The church, consecrated in 2011, was designed by Gido Hülsmann and Dirk Boländer.

The monastery occupies a Gründerzeit apartment building at Voßstraße 36 in the List district; the church, consecrated in 2011, is entered from the building itself. The brothers offer spiritual accompaniment, and since 1997 the Cella Praxis für Atmung und Stimme, a state-approved speech therapy practice, has operated on site.

The monastery church, consecrated on 12 February 2011, was built inside the residential building by architects Gido Hülsmann and Dirk Boländer. A translucent alabaster wall separates the room from the street, and a cross made by Brother Abraham Fischer, designed together with the architects, focuses the space towards the apse.
