Café Prag

Café Prag is a large establishment in the Inner Old Town featuring architecture that blends socialist classicism with neobaroque elements. The building houses a spacious main hall with gallery, ceiling paintings, and a striking glass mosaic column as a centerpiece.

An architect designed the building in 1953, and after completion in 1956 a public competition determined its name. The venue later hosted artistic performances and eventually transformed into a market hall following extensive renovation.

The name reflects a preference for Eastern European coffee culture and artistic exchanges from that era. Visitors can still see the restored wall paintings and interior details that preserve this connection to cross-border cultural interests.

The space offers multiple entrances and levels, making it easy to explore different sections based on your interests. Plan to spend time wandering through the vendor areas and looking up at the ceiling details and gallery spaces.
